Fourth Plain Forward (FPF) seeks an experienced, engaging, and equity-focused Executive Director to join our growing team and support our small business and resident advocacy.  East Fourth Plain (between I-5 and Andresen Road in Vancouver, WA) is home to over 150 small, locally-owned businesses from ethnically and economically diverse backgrounds. The Executive Director serves as a catalyst for organizational growth and supports activities that strengthen the business district and the diverse community it serves The Executive Director reports directly to the FPF Board of Directors.

FPF works with area communities and businesses to provide resources, organize placemaking activities, and advocate for equitable investments in transportation, safety, public space, and other community-identified priorities.   Programs include: An annual multicultural festival, neighborhood litter cleanup events, storefront improvement program, small business technical assistance (including marketing, financial literacy, permits, business plans and website development), small business emergency grants and the Fourth Plain Murals Program.

Executive Director- Core Responsibilities

The Executive Director is responsible for managing and executing all operational functions supporting FPF’s programs. Accountable to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director represents and is a spokesperson for FPF.  The position holder effectively and efficiently manages the review and evaluation of programs, activities and staff including team leadership and employment actions such as hiring, coaching, performance appraisal and corrective action as needed.  This role also provides contractual compliance oversight, performs fundraising and resource development, promotes FPF’s work and vision, allocates resources, and develops organizational policy and programs. The Executive Director works collaboratively with community stakeholders including donors to fulfill our mission and vision.

What skills and experience could you bring to the FPF team?

  • Two to 5+ years of nonprofit leadership experience to include operations, organizational representation, programs, budget management, fundraising, strategic planning and team development.
  • Four-year degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; Master’s degree is preferred but not required.
  • Track record of applying an equity lens to program development and organizational decision making and engaging historically excluded and underserved community members in this process.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide organizational leadership during a time of growth.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret financial reports.
  • Past experience working with a nonprofit Board of Directors.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; Bilingual (Spanish/English language skills) are a plus!
  • Ability to work effectively with the Fourth Plain community and local government representatives.
  • Excellent mentoring and coaching skills to lead, support and build our valued FPF employee and volunteer teams; you champion a positive and inclusive work environment.

  • Proven ability to respond to changing needs related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Actions and words support the belief that community-led change is possible, and that together we can build a stronger and more resilient Fourth Plain community.
  • Familiarity with MS Office programs including Word, Excel and Outlook. Experience with QuickBooks and a donor management system is preferred. (EX: Little Green Light).
  • You are willing and able to work occasional evenings and weekends to support FPF activities and events.
